your first statement is wrong. at equilibrium, new molecues are still being made. equilibrium doesnt mean nothing is happening (that's a static equilibrium, like in a brick), in a dynamic equilibrium, things are happening, just that the forward and backward reaction takes place at the same rate so that no overall change takes place.
