I have questions about pet RATS! (rat owners needed :)?

males are usually bigger than females ,they pretty much have same temperament unless they are breeding,i would advise you to get a young one(weaned of course)because they only live up to 5 years with proper care,habitats should be gl,plastic or metal escape-proof with a solid bottom, rats love to climb so a tall habitat is recommended,it will allow you to create challenges for your rat .a fish tank is what i use i have a 55 gal for my two females with 1 to 2 inches of recycled paper bedding.do not feed them chocolate,alcohol or caffeine these things can cause serious medical problems,you can feed them lab blocks for rats and small amounts of fruits and veggies and yes you can teach them to come to you when you call there names and to do trick and they love any thing with bells in it i also put wood/sticks in the cage to keep there teeth health.clean the wet spots out of the cage every day,change all bedding once weekly.i hoped this info helped you out...tink82....oh ps.... they are not smarter than dogs i dont think.they will not sit,lay,rollover or none of that stuff.
